BOUT OF BOOKS 10!

GUYS. I'm participating in the Bout of Books Read-A-Thon again! I did it last summer and was so happy I did! I read a lot in that week and felt good about reading all that! I decided to do it again because I feel like I just need to force myself to read the books I have on my shelf. I will be in school this time around, but I still plan on reading a lot and at every chance I get. I will have a post up closer to the date as to what I will be reading because at this point, I'm not sure. But here is the official blurb and I hope you participate!

The Bout of Books read-a-thon is organized by Amanda @ On a Book Bender and Kelly @ Reading the Paranormal. It is a week long read-a-thon that begins 12:01am Monday, May 12th and runs through Sunday, May 18th in whatever time zone you are in. Bout of Books is low-pressure, and the only reading competition is between you and your usual number of books read in a week. There are challenges, giveaways, and a grand prize, but all of these are completely optional. For all Bout of Books 10 information and updates, be sure to visit the Bout of Books blog. - From the Bout of Books team

HAPPY READING! :)

April Wrap Up and May TBR! 2014

I'M GRADUATING IN A MONTH. HECK yes. Totally not the point of this post, but you can tell how utterly excited I am. In the month of April, I read 10 books. Kindle books have really been helping me out reading a lot of books during the month because they don't take long to read but also not helping me because I'm not reading the physical books I need to read on my shelves! I don't know how much reading time I will have in the next couple months(graduating and college preparations), so I'm trying to haul ass and read a lot of books when I have free time during the week or free weekends. I'm not going to have  a big TBR for May either because I have no idea what I'm going to read and don't want to pressure myself. So enough rambling, here are the books!

APRIL READS:

The Catastrophic History of You And Me by Jess Rothenberg--> 3/5 stars
Bruiser by Neal Shusterman--> 3/5 stars
Hamlet by William Shakespeare--> 2/5 stars
Come Away With Me by Kristen Proby--> 3/5 stars
The Cardturner by Louis Sachar--> 3/5 stars
Now And Then by Brenda Rothert--> 4/5 stars
Call Me Cat by Karpov Kinrade--> 4/5 stars
Forever and Always by Jasinda Wilder--> 5/5 stars!
Ten Tiny Breaths by K.A. Tucker--> 2/5 stars
The Seacrest by Aaron Paul Lazar--> didn't finish enough to score, but didn't like it

I also started The Sweetness at the Bottom of the Pie by Alan Bradley which I hope to finish in May. But these other books are possibilities for the month of May:

Its Kind of A Funny Story by Ned Vizzini
Pride and Prejudice by Jane Austen
The Catcher in the Rye by J.D. Salinger

Those are the only books I want to read, but might not. I can never follow a TBR... I also put up reviews for almost all these books, so go check them out under my reviews tab! I hope you had a good reading month!

Book Review: Ten Tiny Breaths by K.A.Tucker

SYNOPSIS:
Kacey Cleary’s whole life imploded four years ago in a drunk-driving accident. Now she’s working hard to bury the pieces left behind—all but one. Her little sister, Livie. Kacey can swallow the constant disapproval from her born-again aunt Darla over her self-destructive lifestyle; she can stop herself from going kick-boxer crazy on Uncle Raymond when he loses the girls’ college funds at a blackjack table. She just needs to keep it together until Livie is no longer a minor, and then they can get the hell out of Grand Rapids, Michigan.
But when Uncle Raymond slides into bed next to Livie one night, Kacey decides it’s time to run. Armed with two bus tickets and dreams of living near the coast, Kacey and Livie start their new lives in a Miami apartment complex, complete with a grumpy landlord, a pervert upstairs, and a neighbor with a stage name perfectly matched to her chosen “profession.” But Kacey’s not worried. She can handle all of them. What she can’t handle is Trent Emerson in apartment 1D.
Kacey doesn’t want to feel. She doesn’t. It’s safer that way. For everyone. But sexy Trent finds a way into her numb heart, reigniting her ability to love again. She starts to believe that maybe she can leave the past where it belongs and start over. Maybe she’s not beyond repair.
But Kacey isn’t the only one who’s broken. Seemingly perfect Trent has an unforgivable past of his own; one that, when discovered, will shatter Kacey’s newly constructed life and send her back into suffocating darkness.

MY REVIEW:
If you haven't read this book, I'm going to spoil the shit out of you, so leave if you haven't read it! This book was an insane roller coaster of emotions. I was really hooked to the book in the beginning. I instantly fell in love with Kacey and Livie's characters. They are so likable and funny. They made me crack up and feel the pain that went with their story. I really liked the concept of the story and how a lot of the characters were dealing with death. That's really all I liked about the book. I really didn't enjoy how Kacey all of a sudden liked Trent. Okay, they met like twice and didn't even go out on a date before she was all over him. I just didn't understand that someone with as many problems as her just letting some complete stranger into her life like that. She didn't even know anything about him and she liked him so much...WHAT IS THAT!? And then the huge ass plot twist towards the middle of the book that totally changed my perspective in the book altogether. I cant believe after they told Kacey she'd been stalked by him for TWO years, she still felt sympathy for him. Yeah, I get it. I have lost people in my life and I know how hard it is to cope with things and forgive. But I still cant believe Kacey went back to him and forgave him! He fucking lied to her and stalked her! HELLO! Am I the only one who sees a problem with that!? You can tell how mad I am about this book. At the beginning of the book you would just think Kacey has some major forgiveness issues but then by the end, you think she is a wack job. I don't think the author made it seem there was anything wrong with her at the beginning compared to the end. I don't think I'm going to continue this series even though the second book is about Livie and shes like the only character I liked. I rated this book a 2/5 stars.

Book Review: Forever & Always by Jasinda Wilder

SYNOPSIS:
Ever,
These letters are often all that get me through week to week. Even if it’s just random stuff, nothing important, they’re important to me. Gramps is great, and I love working on the ranch. But…I’m lonely. I feel disconnected, like I’m no one, like I don’t belong anywhere. Like I’m just here until something else happens. I don’t even know what I want with my future. But your letters, they make me feel connected to something, to someone. I had a crush on you, when we first met. I thought you were beautiful. So beautiful. It was hard to think of anything else. Then camp ended and we never got together, and now all I have of you is these letters. S**t. I just told you I have a crush on you. HAD. Had a crush. Not sure what is anymore. A letter-crush? A literary love? That’s stupid. Sorry. I just have this rule with myself that I never throw away what I write and I always send it, so hopefully this doesn’t weird you out too much. I had a dream about you too. Same kind of thing. Us, in the darkness, together. Just us. And it was like you said, a memory turned into a dream, but a memory of something that’s never happened, but in the dream it felt so real, and it was more, I don’t even know, more RIGHT than anything I’ve ever felt, in life or in dreams. I wonder what it means that we both had the same dream about each other. Maybe nothing, maybe everything. You tell me.
Cade

MY REVIEW:
Wow. This book blew my mind away. I loved it. It is easily one of my favorites for the year! I loved the start to this book. It totally was cute contemporary at the lake and all fun at art camp. But then when they go home, it just goes down hill from there. The story turns dark and gets more into adult. It was so much fun to see Ever and Caden grow up throughout the years and how time flew for them. I was literally heartbroken through all of Caden's story. He honestly had the shittiest hand dealt to him and it was so sad. Ever grew up a lot too. I think she was really mature because she was forced to raise herself because her dad was so closed off. I love how even though they were busy with their own lives, they still wrote to each other. Even if it was just one letter a month. And then when Caden actually goes to get her! AHH! I was like no, this isn't really happening and then he was actually there! AHH! I'm just telling you now, the whole second half of the book is sex. They are constantly together and never split apart. And the ending was okay. It reminded me of Point of Retreat by Colleen Hoover a little bit. Just the car accident part. And then when the doctor said Ever was pregnant! BLOODY HELL. This book is fantastically written. Even though I loved this book, I will NOT be continuing on with the series. I read a spoiler considering I wont get the other books for a while and I don't like whats going to happen. It was a cute first book though and I recommend it! I obviously rated it a 5/5 stars!

Book Review: Now and Then by Brenda Rothert

SYNOPSIS:
Now Emmaline Carson is a sharp, settled graphic designer who loves painting, cooking and girls’ night out with her older sister Layla. But then – in the years before she went to art school in Paris – she was a shy, awkward teenager with frizzy hair, a flat chest and a massive crush on the boy across the street, Cole Marlowe. Too bad her incredibly hot neighbor only had eyes for Layla.
Cole is now a confident, laid-back attorney who’s even hotter than he used to be. He’s planning to stay single while working his way up the corporate ladder – until he’s knocked off course by a chance run-in with Emma.
Everything is different between Cole and Emma now. He finally sees her in a way she only dreamed of, and their hot chemistry is fueled by a growing friendship. But Emma’s deception of her sister – who wants Cole for herself – and the secret Cole’s been keeping for more than a decade threaten to tear apart what’s only just begun. Because sometimes the only thing standing in the way of now is then.

MY REVIEW:
I really liked this book! I got it for free so I figured it would be crappy, but I got a good one here! Its was written in third person and I don't really enjoy that, but it was portrayed very nicely in this book! I loved the main character Emma. I feel like I was like her and could connect to her easily. I didn't like her sister. I thought she was totally mean and rotten and disrespectful. She kept bringing Emma down and that was part of the reason I didn't give this book a 5/5 stars. I really liked Cole too. I just didn't like him in the 'Then' parts when he didn't even notice Emma. I liked how their relationship didn't move too fast. I didn't like their fights though. It was off and on and it was about the past. I understand why Emma didn't really trust that he would stay considering he was a jerk back then, but after a while it was clear he wanted her not her annoying ass sister. I liked this book, but not sure if I want to continue it considering the next book is about her sister finding love. Bleh. Shes mean. But I rated this book a 4/5 stars!

Book Review: Call Me Cat by Karpov Kinrade

SYNOPSIS:
Catelyn Travis is a good girl who gets good grades in law school, doesn’t date and never gets into trouble.
But when a run of bad luck threatens to destroy everything she's worked for, she's forced to become Cat, phone sex goddess who fulfills the fantasies of her clients night after night.
When she meets Ashton Davenport the Third, bad boy biker billionaire, she knows to stay away. But when he calls her alter ego, Cat, she has no choice but to fall for the sexy stranger.
Now her life is spiraling out of control as she struggles to keep her two identities separate, but there's one person who knows her secret.
And he'll stop at nothing to destroy her, just like he destroyed her parents.
Threatened at every turn, her life crumbling around her, Catelyn must decide who she can trust, because the wrong choice could end her life.

MY REVIEW:
Well, this book kept me on the edge of my seat throughout the whole thing. I didn't know a lot about this book going into it and I'm glad! It was a really dark story and that's what grabbed my attention to begin with. The actual scene was hard to read because, um, hello. Its a murder. But I got past it and it was a really enjoyable story line! I loved Ash! Oh gosh, he was hot. I really liked how their (Cat and Ash's) relationship developed. I totally didn't expect the person who kidnapped her to be that person! I had a suspicion, but dismissed it. I didn't like the ending very much though. I felt like everything was rushed. And then I was a little confused at what Cat was seeing and wasn't seeing. I would really like to continue on with this series! I want to know who this person is who murdered her parents. I rated this book a 4/5 stars. I would definitely recommend it for lovers of romance and mystery. This book did it for me!

Book Review: The Cardturner by Louis Sachar

SYNOPSIS:
How are we supposed to be partners? He can’t see the cards and I don’t know the rules!
The summer after junior year of high school looks bleak for Alton Richards. His girlfriend has dumped him to hook up with his best friend. He has no money and no job. His parents insist that he drive his great-uncle Lester to his bridge club four times a week and be his cardturner—whatever that means. Alton’s uncle is old, blind, very sick, and very rich.
But Alton’s parents aren’t the only ones trying to worm their way into Lester Trapp’s good graces. They’re in competition with his longtime housekeeper, his alluring young nurse, and the crazy Castaneda family, who seem to have a mysterious influence over him.
Alton soon finds himself intrigued by his uncle, by the game of bridge, and especially by the pretty and shy Toni Castaneda. As the summer goes on, he struggles to figure out what it all means, and ultimately to figure out the meaning of his own life.
Through Alton’s wry observations, Louis Sachar explores the disparity between what you know and what you think you know. With his incomparable flair and inventiveness, he examines the elusive differences between perception and reality—and inspires readers to think and think again.

SYNOPSIS:
I am getting into these becoming of age stories and I enjoyed this one. I liked Alton from the very start. He was set up just like a normal teenager would act. I also loved his uncle. He wasn't a likable character in the beginning, but you got used to him. I didn't like Alton's mom or dad at all. All they were after was Lester's money. That pissed me off throughout the whole book. And then when he died, they felt guilty. Good, I hope you feel guilty! I didn't really like Toni and Alton' relationship. It was clear that they liked each other and then she went out with Alton's "best" friend! And let me tell you, hes a piece of shit too! He is just a player. I'm pretty sure he didn't care about Toni and didn't have the decency to tell Katie he didn't want to go out with her anymore. I liked all Lester's friends though. They were so funny and I loved all the stories they told. This was a great book. I recommend it if you are a fan of cards or bridge especially. I rated this book a 3/5 stars.

Book Review: Come Away With Me by Kristen Proby

SYNOPSIS:
Being confronted on the beach by a sexy stranger wasn't part of Natalie Conner's plans for a peaceful morning taking photos. And why on earth would he think she's taking pictures of him, anyway? Who is he? One thing’s for sure, he’s hot, and incredibly romantic, feeding Natalie’s wounded soul.
Luke Williams just wants the world to give him a break, so seeing yet another camera aimed at his face has him ready to pounce on the beauty behind the lens. When he finds out she has no idea who he is, he's intrigued and more than a little tempted by her. Natalie has a body made for sex, a sassy mouth and Luke can’t get enough of her, but he’s not ready to tell her who he really his.
Natalie is a no nonsense girl who doesn’t do well with lies and secrets. What will happen to this new relationship when she discovers what Luke’s hiding?

MY REVIEW:
I was browsing on Kindle books  and found this one was for free and had good ratings on Goodreads so I picked it up. And surprisingly for free, it was good! I read this book in two days. I didn't want to put it down. I liked the characters and felt connected with Nat and Luke. I liked the story line (even thought not much happened) and just thought this was a fun book. Now to the dislikes.... Although I did like the story, I just felt they got along wayyyyy too fast in the beginning of the story. And then they go out together. WHAT! You just met and you are complete strangers. And when Natalie was doing one of her photo shoots and Luke got jealous because she was with a guy. And then he says she needs to get permission before she does another shoot with him? HELL NO. And then she goes with it. I would have told him I do what I want when I want. Also, I just thought they fought over the dumbest things. Yeah, I would get mad if he didn't tell me if was a celebrity, but other than that, it was just jealousy shit. DUMB. And don't even get me started on how spoiled rotten she was. Yeah its cute to get a coffee or something little here and there, but he got her wayyy too much. Like, dude, shes got her own money to buy her own stuff. The ending was okay. I totally saw the pregnancy thing coming. IT ALWAYS HAPPENS. I liked the book but there were some technical difficulties. I rated it a 3.5 stars.

Book Review: The Catastrophic History of You and Me by Jess Rothenberg

SYNOPSIS:
Dying of a broken heart is just the beginning.... Welcome to forever.
BRIE'S LIFE ENDS AT SIXTEEN: Her boyfriend tells her he doesn't love her, and the news breaks her heart—literally.
But now that she's D&G (dead and gone), Brie is about to discover that love is way more complicated than she ever imagined. Back in Half Moon Bay, her family has begun to unravel. Her best friend has been keeping a secret about Jacob, the boy she loved and lost—and the truth behind his shattering betrayal. And then there's Patrick, Brie's mysterious new guide and resident Lost Soul . . . who just might hold the key to her forever after.
With Patrick's help, Brie will have to pass through the five stages of grief before she's ready to move on. But how do you begin again, when your heart is still in pieces?

MY REVIEW:
Well, this book was different... It was totally normal in the beginning and then it just got extremely weird towards the middle of the book. Yes, I understand the concept of the book was about the main character and her going through the five stages of grief, but Brie got annoying after a while. She was so concerned about Jacob and she treated Patrick like shit. I know she was sad about not being with Jacob anymore, but she died! Its not like she can go back and fix anything. I also felt the world building was confusing at times. I just kind of imagined it how I would have seen it. I also felt the ending was a little rushed considering not a lot happened in the middle of the book. The story could have been spread out a little more. I loved Patrick. I just hated how Brie was always telling him to stop helping her! I was like wtf? He just trying to make you feel better you bitch. I overall liked the book, it was just weird here and there and a little confusing. I rated it a 3/5 stars.

Book Review: Bruiser by Neal Shusterman

SYNOPSIS:
"There’s a reason why Brewster can’t have friends – why he can’t care about too many people. Because when he cares about you, things start to happen. Impossible things that can’t be explained. I know, because they're happening to me."

When Brontë starts dating Brewster “Bruiser” Rawlins – the guy voted “Most Likely to Get the Death Penalty” her twin brother, Tennyson, isn’t surprised. But then strange things begin to occur. Tennyson and Brontë’s scrapes heal unnaturally fast, and cuts disappear before their eyes. What at first seems like their good fortune turns out to be more than they bargained for…much more.

MY REVIEW:
I went into this book not knowing a lot about it. It turned into a good idea!  I was intrigued right from the beginning. I liked Tennyson because of his personality and his wit. I really thought it was just going to be his perspective, but it was everyone's point of view. I liked that part of the book but then I didn't. I liked that we got a glimpse of everyone's situation but then, I didn't feel connected to the characters like I should have. The book had a good concept, I just feel like not a lot happened. It was also hard to read through the abusing parts. And let me just tell you, I HATED his uncle. I was glad he died. He was a definite piece of shit. I felt bad for Brewster throughout the whole book. It was heartbreaking to read this book to be honest. Don't let that stop you from reading it though.... The ending kept me on the edge of my seat though! I didn't know what was going to happen to Brewster or Bronte. I also felt that Tennyson kind of went a little nuts, but hey, he got better. I overall liked this book and would definitely pick up another Neal Shusterman book! I rated this book a 3/5 stars.

The Catastrophic History of You and Me by Jess Rothenberg (already started it. 46 pages in)
Bruiser by Neal Shusterman
The Cardturner by Louis Sachar

Those are the only three books I have picked out, but I plan on reading a lot from my shelf this month. Like, physical copies I need to read and get done with. I hope you had a good March reading month and will have a great April reading month!

Book Review: The Infinite Moment Of Us by Lauren Myracle

SYNOPSIS:
For as long as she can remember, Wren Gray’s goal has been to please her parents. But as high school graduation nears, so does an uncomfortable realization: Pleasing her parents once overlapped with pleasing herself, but now... not so much. Wren needs to honor her own desires, but how can she if she doesn’t even know what they are?
Charlie Parker, on the other hand, is painfully aware of his heart’s desire. A gentle boy with a troubled past, Charlie has loved Wren since the day he first saw her. But a girl like Wren would never fall for a guy like Charlie—at least not the sort of guy Charlie believes himself to be.
And yet certain things are written in the stars. And in the summer after high school, Wren and Charlie’s souls will collide. But souls are complicated, as are the bodies that house them...
Sexy, romantic, and oh-so-true to life, this is an unforgettable look at first love from one of young adult fiction’s greatest writers.

FULL REVIEW:
I was honestly so excited for this book because of the cover. Its fantastic. Too bad the story was utter shit. Sorry, but yeah, it was awful. The ratings on Goodreads were really bad but I thought, Hey, low expectations means Ill enjoy the book more right? NOPE. Nothing even happened in this book. There was no meaning, no conflict...NOTHING! In the beginning, all of a sudden they got together. They just continued spending time with each other like, everyday. Like, what?! This book was just totally boring. They got into fights over the DUMBEST things. This book made me laugh at how ridiculous it was. I really liked Lauren Myracle's TTYL series and this book was just dumb compared to that series. I didn't feel connected to the characters and was glad the book was over. Blah. I gave this book a 1/5 stars. God awful...

Book Review: The Proposition by Katie Ashley

SYNOPSIS:
With her thirtieth birthday looming, Emma Harrison finds her biological clock clanging and the elusive knight in shining armor yet to appear. She’s running out of options, especially after her gay best friend backs out from being her sperm donor. Of course, there’s always a sperm bank, but Emma fears a donor mix-up might impregnate her with the spawn of Satan.
Resident company womanizer, Aidan Fitzgerald, is used to always getting what he wants, especially in the bedroom. When Emma spurns his advances at the company Christmas party, he's determined to have her no matter what it takes. After Aidan learns of Emma's predicament, he is quick to offer a proposition that will benefit them both. He will father Emma's child, but she must conceive it with him naturally. Not one for hook-ups or casual sex, Emma is reluctant to take him up on his offer, but his charm, coupled with her intense desire for motherhood, wins out.
Soon their baby-making sessions become more than just physical. Aidan can't seem to walk away from her while Emma begins to wonder if Aidan could be the one. But can Aidan leave his past behind to become the man Emma needs him to be?

MY REVIEW:
Well. This book... Damn. I got a free sample for this on my kindle and fell in love with the  first two chapters so I decided to buy it. It was kind of iffy at the beginning because this random guy wants to have sex with you because you want a baby. WHAT. That part was kind of creepy. I mean they work in the same building but still. I think they should have started it with the party and talked about how they met initially. That's important for their baby-making process. I did like this book a lot more than I thought I would. There were cheesy lines here and there that I didn't like but other than that the story was good. I knew they were going to get together. It was inevitable! I fell in love with Aidan but at the end, he was a total dickhead. I wanted to punch him in his beautiful face. I cant even begin to explain how I annoyed I was with him. I liked Emma too. She was the sweetest girl. I can see her being the best mom. The only thing I didn't like about this book was the repetition. Emma kept telling Aidan how he wasn't a man whore and a good person on the inside. And, I felt there wasn't a big issue in this book except at the end. Although I had minor issues, I really want to continue on with this story! Overall, I gave this book a 3/5 stars.

Book Review: Phantom Summer by Amy Sparling

SYNOPSIS:
Seventeen-year-old Taylor Gray moves to Sterling Island to get over her dead boyfriend. Mom’s cool with letting her crash on the couch, but Taylor needs to get a job before the lights are cut off again.
When the tall, dark and crazy Raine Tsunami offers her a position at his thriving ghost tour business, she figures it’s an easy way to make some cash. Taylor isn’t afraid of ghosts--that crap is as fake as her mom’s boob job. She loves their adventures on the historic island, especially the secret places he shows her when the crowds go home. So what if all the ghost stories are just legends?
When Taylor comes face to face with a ghost and Raine crosses the line between friend and boyfriend--Taylor’s new life collides with her haunted past. If murdered people end up as ghosts, then that someone she was trying to forget is probably watching her.

MY REVIEW:
Man, this book had so much potential! I was really intrigued with the story line and thought it was going to get a whole lot better. Yeah, I was wrong. I got this book for free and Ive had it for a while for I decided to just read it already. I was really interested in the beginning of it so I continued on with the story. I didn't really like the main character and thought she kept putting herself down. Almost like a pity party for her...even though shes not the one that's dead... Umm, hello? First, its not your fault. Its your friends fault for driving off with this girlfriend for even kissing you in the first place and second, I'm not going to pity you. Sure, its sucks you're best friend died and its sad, but I'm going to be sad for him, not you. Besides the dumb main character Taylor, I fell in love with Raine from the very start. Hes so unique. I feel like I didn't get to know him enough though. Everything just happened at the end so fast and it was stuff that could have gone in the middle and then continued on with a different plot. I didn't fall in love with the characters and the story line was totally wacky. I gave this book 2/5 stars because I liked the concept, it just didn't play out well. Oh, and Raine. *swoon*
