Book Review: The Bell Jar by Sylvia Plath

SYNOPSIS:
Sylvia Plath's shocking, realistic, and intensely emotional novel about a woman falling into the grip of insanity.
Esther Greenwood is brilliant, beautiful, enormously talented, and successful, but slowly going under—maybe for the last time. In her acclaimed and enduring masterwork, Sylvia Plath brilliantly draws the reader into Esther's breakdown with such intensity that her insanity becomes palpably real, even rational—as accessible an experience as going to the movies. A deep penetration into the darkest and most harrowing corners of the human psyche, The Bell Jar is an extraordinary accomplishment and a haunting American classic.

MY REVIEW:
Well, after two months of reading this book, it was definitely not what I expected it to be. It was wayyy better! Being a classic, I thought this book was going to be really slow. It actually wasn't, I just was slow at reading it. I'm usually not into stories like this-losing yourself to some disease or addiction. Those types of books normally scare me and I have to put them down. But this book started out like a normal book. By the middle of it, it escalated extremely fast! It was like her at college and then she was falling fast. I didn't get scared with this one like the other ones and that was a plus. The only thing that was scary was that some of the things in this book actually did happen to Sylvia Plath. She ended her life on February 11th, 1963. It was a strange book but it was a good strange. I did not like the ending though. So we will never know if she made it out of the asylum?! Like what the hell! I was so into the ending and all of a sudden... Boom. Done. And then there was me: *slams book and is totally not impressed* Overall, I rated this book a 4/5. I suggest it if you're into classics or fiction.

Book Review: The Great Gatsby by F. Scott Fitzgerald

SYNOPSIS:
It's also a love story, of sorts, the narrative of Gatsby's quixotic passion for Daisy Buchanan. The pair meet five years before the novel begins, when Daisy is a legendary young Louisville beauty and Gatsby an impoverished officer. They fall in love, but while Gatsby serves overseas, Daisy marries the brutal, bullying, but extremely rich Tom Buchanan. After the war, Gatsby devotes himself blindly to the pursuit of wealth by whatever means--and to the pursuit of Daisy, which amounts to the same thing. "Her voice is full of money," Gatsby says admiringly, in one of the novel's more famous descriptions. His millions made, Gatsby buys a mansion across Long Island Sound from Daisy's patrician East Egg address, throws lavish parties, and waits for her to appear. When she does, events unfold with all the tragic inevitability of a Greek drama, with detached, cynical neighbor Nick Carraway acting as chorus throughout. Spare, elegantly plotted, and written in crystalline prose, The Great Gatsby is as perfectly satisfying as the best kind of poem.

MY REVIEW:
As you know, I LOATHE reading books for class. I feel like every book Ive read in school was absolutely terrible. Until this one. I loved this book! I ended up giving it a 4/5 stars! I only gave it four because I dislike not knowing what the characters look like. I couldn't picture Nick the WHOLE book and only got small details about the other characteristics. And, at times during the book, I had no idea what was going on. I had to re-read the lines a couple of times to actually understand the meaning. I had not seen the movie before I read the book so I had no clue what was going to happen. I cant even believe Gatsby dies. Those pages of the book upset me to NO END. No one ever found out that it wasn't Gatsby who killed Myrtle or did anything with her. And then Gatsby's dad comes back?! Like, what the hell? He said his parents died?! AHH! I also didn't like how out of every single person that went to his parties, not one went to his funeral. HOW RUDE. I really didn't like Daisy either. Make up your mind girl, you're either with Tom or Jay. Get with the program. I know its sounding like I didn't like anything in this book, but I really did like it as a whole. Key word: whole. I suggest it if your into reading the classics!

Book Review: Origin by Jennifer L. Armentrout

SYNOPSIS:
Daemon will do anything to get Katy back.
After the successful but disastrous raid on Mount Weather, he’s facing the impossible. Katy is gone. Taken. Everything becomes about finding her. Taking out anyone who stands in his way? Done. Burning down the whole world to save her? Gladly. Exposing his alien race to the world? With pleasure.
All Katy can do is survive.
Surrounded by enemies, the only way she can come out of this is to adapt. After all, there are sides of Daedalus that don’t seem entirely crazy, but the group’s goals are frightening and the truths they speak even more disturbing. Who are the real bad guys? Daedalus? Mankind? Or the Luxen?
Together, they can face anything.
But the most dangerous foe has been there all along, and when the truths are exposed and the lies come crumbling down, which side will Daemon and Katy be standing on?

And will they even be together?

MY REVIEW:
Okay, so this is the second time I'm trying to write this review and that's really upsetting because my first review was extremely good. I will try to remember what I was saying. So first off, I don't know what to do until the last book comes out. I'm sure JL is trying to kill me and every other Daemon Black lover out there. I didn't like the beginning of this book considering it was only about Katy being locked up. Let me just be honest right now-I am selfish when it comes to Daemon and Katy being together. I only want to read the book when they are together with each other. I just felt it lacks story when they aren't together. Am I making sense? Probably not. I also love how this story isn't all about the prince rescuing the princess. Katy is a bad ass! She fights with him and refuses to stay by and let Daemon take care of everything. The love in this book is absolutely fantastic. Katy and Daemon are like, the best couple. I ENVY THEM. I seriously hope no one dies in the last book either. I'm sure someone will but no one main. None of the Black family or Katy or her mom. I will be completely done with the series. This book was probably the best one for Daemon. He is usually this keep to himself kind of guy and in this one he just said all the cheesy lines and anything else that came to his mind. I love him 75894751894 times more now. Just saying. But that ending though... I cant even. Not even going to go there. But anyway, overall I gave this book a 4.5/5 stars. AMAZEBALLS!

Small Haul #5

Finally another book haul! I was so happy to get the last three books in the Vampire Academy! I have read books 1-4 and will soon be marathoning the last two. Now, the only one in the series I don't own is Shadow Kiss. Which is unfortunate because that was one of my favorite ones! I will have to order it... Anyway, I am also extremely excited about Origin!!! I marathoned the first three books during August and when this one came out, I was broke, so Ive really been waiting for this book for three months and its been agony. And, yes, that's Divergent because I am not yet in the fandom. I'm sorry. But I will definitely be reading it before the movie. The last book I'm excited for is Water for Elephants. I haven't even seen the movie so I am hoping to read it and then watch the movie! That's it for my haul, I hope you have all been buying some good books lately! As always, you can find all the info about these books on goodreads.com. Bye!
