SYNOPSIS:
One kiss could be the last.
Seventeen-year-old
Layla just wants to be normal. But with a kiss that kills anything with
a soul, she's anything but normal. Half demon, half gargoyle, Layla has
abilities no one else possesses.
Raised among the Wardens—a
race of gargoyles tasked with hunting demons and keeping humanity
safe—Layla tries to fit in, but that means hiding her own dark side from
those she loves the most. Especially Zayne, the swoon-worthy,
incredibly gorgeous and completely off-limits Warden she's crushed on
since forever.
Then she meets Roth—a tattooed, sinfully hot
demon who claims to know all her secrets. Layla knows she should stay
away, but she's not sure she wants to—especially when that whole
no-kissing thing isn't an issue, considering Roth has no soul.
But
when Layla discovers she's the reason for the violent demon uprising,
trusting Roth could not only ruin her chances with Zayne…it could brand
her a traitor to her family. Worse yet, it could become a one-way ticket
to the end of the world.
MY REVIEW:
J. Lynn never fails to impress me! I loved this book! This is one of my new favorites of the year. I cant wait to continue the series. I liked the main character, Layla, and how she didn't take anyone's crap. Her and Zayne's relationship was excellent. I love how they had that brother/sister connection (even though she had a crush on him...) and how he treated her like somebody important and not just the half demon she was. That's why, when she started hanging out with Roth, I didn't like how she kept it from Zayne. I feel like she should have told him. I get that she didn't know whether to trust him or not, but he wasn't the one she needed to stay away from. And speaking of Roth, OH MY GOSH. He is freaking fantastic. He reminded me of Daemon from J. Lynn's Lux series. That's one of the parts I didn't like. I felt it was a lot like Obsidian and I just wish it was more original. And, I felt that Layla and Roth's connection was moving WAYYY too fast. Like, way fast. Let me just tell you about Roth's tattoos... HOW FREAKING COOL. They move off his skin. I want one! I also didn't understand some of the back story of the demons and Wardens. It was a little confusing. But that ending! I almost cried. I miss Roth so much. But hes most likely alive and will come back...at least I hope. Layla was so sad. I was too! I overall gave this book a 4/5 stars!
